Short Description / Article Intro

Skycoin has been officially adopted by iTunes, in a subtle endorsement by Apple of the new technology which might well undermine its own franchise dominance. The Skycoin announcement on February 19th draws attention to the inclusion by Apple on its Dutch iTunes menu of five free Skycoin podcasts. These are all interviews with members of the Skycoin team talking about the project, and maybe Apple is acknowledging the trend of future developments by promoting this blockchain tech. Logically, though, anything which promotes free and instant dissemination of products is running directly counter to Apple\'s monopoly.

The project that claims to be building the new internet, Skycoin includes blockchain-based transaction capacity that is free and instant, together with various associated features. Skyminer will pay users for spare bandwidth on their internet access point, while Skywire is to produce an anonymous telecoms and mesh internet system that will oust the old procedures and pave the way for a decentralised future.

Skycoin has a tradeable coin, SKY, which is used as the cryptocurrency fuelling Skywire. Subscribers accessing Skywire bandwidth pay with SKY, and can earn SKY by passing something along its network, including spare bandwidth. The coin is currently rated at #114 in global market cap rankings, with a value of approximately US$21.50.
