Earlier this year, it was announced that Facebook would be banning all adverts that promoted cryptocurrencies, including those that spoke about Bitcoin. However, after it emerged that many were avoiding the recent ban, the company has revealed that it is investigating such advertisements. According to officials, many have bypassed the recent ban and social media users are still seeing crypto ads.
\r\nFounder of Comae Technologies, Matthieu Suiche explained that many companies are misspelling the word Bitcoin, using the digit \'0\' and the letter \'L\' in an effort to evade Facebook\'s recent advertising policy. Facebook confirmed they are investigating the matter and reiterated their policy. On 30th January, Facebook put a stop to marketing and promotions of financial products that contained deceptive and misleading practices. However, they did agree that the new strategy was broad and they would introduce more specific regulations. The current ban does not detect words and digits that are misspelt, so scammers are taking advantage of this.
\r\nIn response to the banning of digital currency adverts, Facebook said they wanted people to learn and discover new products, but without fear of being scammed or deceived. They explained that lots of companies promoting ICOs and digital assets are not being truthful. Gavin Sheridan, CEO of Vizlegal, said that every time a new policy is created, scammers are likely to change their tactics so they can get around regulations and bans.
