One of the two stores offering the new facility is located in Shinjuku, a district within Tokyo that entices thousands of international visitors on an annual basis. The second store is opposite the main business quarter in Tokyo. The company explained that they want to increase bitcoin awareness and usage. They then said that the introduction of a bitcoin payment system would respond to the differing needs and expectations of customers around the world. Furthermore, the threshold of bitcoins has been set at around $2,760 per user account.

This latest news comes after Japanese electronics retailer Bic Camera revealed that they were investigating a new system allowing users to buy goods using bitcoin. They later confirmed that they would be increasing this payment option to every store. In addition to this, Marui, a Tokyo based department store, explored payments using Bitcoin in August at one of its stores in Shinjuku. The pilot had a capped amount of transactions using Bitcoin at around $900.
