Short Description / Article Intro

The WEX cryptocurrency exchange has issued a warning to users to be aware of phishing scams. The exchange says it has become aware of a number of scammers who are attempting to access users accounts by tricking them into entering their account login and password into fake websites, which are set up to look very similar to the real wex.nz exchange site.

\r\n

Once the scammers have the login and password to an account, they use this information to gain access and transfer funds out of the user\'s wallet to their own account. While it is possible to trace these transactions using the blockchain ledger, it is incredibly challenging to trace the identity of the thieves.

The warning from WEX follows a number of high-profile phishing attempts, such as the recent Bee Token ICO attack. At the beginning of February, investors who were waiting to take part in the Bee Token ICO were scammed when hackers gained access to a mailing list. They used this information to send out a fake email which stated that the next round of the ICO was now open, and that contributions should be sent to the Ethereumaddress listed in the email. It is estimated that 100s of ETH coins were sent before the attack was detected.
