Elixir, who are working with æternity to solve blockchain scalability issues and make the technology more efficient and accessible, announced some key personnel this week. The Sofia-based team is led by software developer and blockchain devotee, Philipp Piwowarsky, and Anton Andonov, who heads up the computer science lab at Sofia's IAPS (Institute for Advanced Physical Studies).

Anton is also the founder of local tech outfit Quanterall, which specialises in the development of the Elixir and Erlang programming languages, which are used in the æternity project. In Andonov's opinion, Elixir is the more intuitive language, and likely to drive much future innovation in blockchain development.

The Elixir project intends to expand æternity's network capabilities and implement a new research-level blockchain which will educate developers about the new technology. They will also co-ordinate a team dedicated to hardware, particularly to studying and improving the existing architecture of hardware wallets.

Further team activities will include constructing a developmental codebase, to enable developers to experiment with advanced æternity features. They will use these features to propose and subsequently build a prototype specification of the blockchain protocols and implement them. According to Piwowarsky, the team's primary goal is "to build a generic blockchain implementation," so that all the development team become familiar with the system's essential components.
