Short Description / Article Intro

The 36-hour Denver Hackathon engendered a handful of exciting new projects over the weekend of February 17th/18th, including a way to shard cryptocurrency keys to ensure privacy, a Denver Kids project for custom-designing sneakers called Crypto Kicks, and a blood donation system based on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Hackathon, at which hundreds of local and global participants joined together for a protracted session of computer collaboration, was conducted by many without sleep, in a fervour of creative invention. Along with workshops and speeches from experts including Vitalik Buterin\'s dad Dimitry (also Founder of Blockgeeks), there was also participation from local authority representatives, educational institutions and many more.

Prizes were awarded to the most successful new ventures devised over the weekend, such as Elkrem, a blockchain facilitator that will connect various elements together with the requisite software or hardware tools. There was also a blockchain transaction profiling project and FeelGood, the afore-mentioned blood donation system.

This project aims to counteract the possibility for blood contamination by making it traceable, with verification processes built in for authenticity. With the proposed system, donated blood bottles could carry a digital signature from an authorised provider or testing centre, recorded on the blockchain. Hospitals, health centres and the ultimate recipient would then be able to track the blood’s origin and history.
