Jenny Goldberg, a cryptocurrency manager at Bytecoin, has been alerting several forums on Reddit today (February 6th) about Telegram scammers. Advising both the Bytecoin community and the wider crypto community to be aware, Goldberg said that Bytecoin had been experiencing \"a higher than average number of scammers\" through their Telegram channels. These channels post public messages under the title of the channel (TV, music, blogging, etc) and scammers can therefore remain anonymous.
\r\nBytecoin, ranked #30 in market cap listings, has shared in the general market slump this week, with its BCN coins losing some 22% in value over the past 24 hours. While not attributing any losses directly to fraudulent behaviour, Goldberg is anxious to share Bytecoin’s experience in order to protect the crypto community generally, and make users more aware of potential dangers.
\r\nThere has been massive hype surrounding the upcoming Telegram ICO, which claims to be the biggest public sale ever, and hopes to establish the first ever mass-market cryptocurrency. However, this also lays it open to attack. Several fake Telegram pre-ICOs have been revealed in past weeks, and Goldberg also said there were \"a lot of scammers in many of the Telegram groups.\" She warned users to be cautious, and never to share any private information, email addresses or 2FA (Two Factor Authentication IDs).
