Japanese Exchange BitFlyer Experiences Tech Problems after European Launch

The day after it launched services in Europe with much fanfare, Japanese coin exchange bitFlyer has been hit by technical problems.

\r\n

In a tweet, the company stated that the issue was caused by a \"decline in database processing speed\" which had affected access to parts of the bitFlyer service since 3:05 PM (JST) on 24th January. The tweet goes on to say that the company is working with Microsoft Japan to investigate and solve the problem.

\r\n

bitFlyer is the 6th largest exchange in Japan by trading volume. The company is registered to operate in the EU and has a new office in Luxembourg. The organisation now claims to be the only coin exchange which is regulated to operate in Japan, the U.S and Europe. The exchange currently only deals in BTC/EUR trading pairs. However, the company has indicated that it plans to bring alt-coins such as bitcoin cash, litecoin, and ethereum on board later in 2018.

\r\n

An hour later, with services partially restored, bitFlyer tweeted again, apologising for the interruption and stating that services were \"now operational\", but that staff were still working towards a \"full system recovery\". It is not known if the technical issues affected the Europe branch of bitFlyer operations.
