Pavel Nyashin, a 23-year-old Russian cryptocurrency blogger, and investor was reportedly robbed during an attack on his Leningrad Oblast home which occurred on January 14th. According to local news media, the thieves got away with funds valued at $425,000.
\r\nNyashin was tied up and physically assaulted by the masked men during the robbery, in which they stole a safe which contained a quantity of cash and other essential documents. Pavel Nyashin is a man who has made millions of dollars by investing in cryptocurrencies. In the past, he has boasted about how well off he was online, which may have made him a target for this kind of attack.
\r\nForkLog reports that the thieves targeted and destroyed electronic equipment during the raid, before fleeing the scene of the crime in a Mercedes. However, one piece of equipment which wasn’t damaged was Nyashin’s laptop, which was taken by the intruders. It is not yet known if Nyashin’s cryptocurrency trading accounts have been compromised. Local law enforcement has now opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
\r\nThe incident follows the kidnapping of Pavel Lerner, the CEO of the EXMO exchange, who was taken from a street in Kiev, and released when a $1 million ransom had been paid.
