AntPool, a leading cryptocurrency mining pool, has announced that it will now support the siacoin token. This announcement follows the news that Bitmain, the Chinese mining chip giant, which also owns AntPool, has also launched the AntMiner A3, a new piece of mining hardware.
\r\nThe siacoin token is a native of the sia blockchain which was developed by Nebulous, a blockchain startup based in Boston as a support system to the decentralised cloud storage system. According to data from Bitmain, the 815 GH/s AntMiner A3 will support the \"blake2b\" hashing algorithm, which is used as part of the siacoin blockchain.
\r\nHowever, the news of this launch does not appear to have been well-received by one member of the team who worked on the development of siacoin.
\r\nPosting on Reddit using the nom de plume \"Taek42\", this representative suggested that as the parent company, Bitmain may be planning to put profits above the development of the sia ecosystem. Taek42 went on to say that the introduction of mining using the AntMiner A3 could result in a soft fork on the sia blockchain.
\r\nHowever, other Reddit users saw the introduction of the AntMiner A3 as a positive, as it would hope to bring the cryptocurrency into the mainstream.
The blockchain industry has grown exponentially, disrupting traditional markets and creating new opportunities for innovation.
