The mainstream revolution continues as universities respond to the need for enlightenment. Several of America\'s leading universities have added courses on cryptocurrency and blockchain, underlining the conviction that, Bitcoin Bubble or no Bitcoin Bubble, blockchain is here to stay. Classes are being offered in various disciplines at top institutions including MIT, University of Maryland and Cornell. Graduates in computer science, economics and law are all interested in finding out more, not to mention the banking and financial services sector.
\r\nOne of the first such courses was offered way back in 2014, by a professor at New York University, who was somewhat ridiculed by colleagues for talking about Bitcoin. David Yermack, who teaches Law and Business, said that the laughter soon changed when he started getting invited to discussions with major European bankers. This year, his enrolments have escalated to 225 students.
\r\nCourses at Duke, Carnegie Mellon and Maryland are also heavily subscribed, and at UC Berkeley the first lecture on blockchain and associated matters left students vying for standing room only. Business schools also need to keep up with current affairs in the technological world, together with lawyers, engineers and computer scientists.
\r\nEdinburgh University is the first UK academic institution to offer blockchain-related courses.
