It sounds like the perfect combination: earning crypto for drinking beer. It could only be a geek, one would think, who could come up with an idea like this – or a Bavarian. World-renowned beer drinkers, and hosts of the annual Oktoberfest beer celebration in Munich, it seems only natural that the Bavarians should find some way of putting their favourite activity onto the Blockchain.
\r\nBayreuth start-up, Beerchain Technology, have been working on a cryptocurrency token, BCBC (Beerchain Beercoin) which could only be mined by beer drinkers. Beer bottles would have a QR code printed inside the bottle cap, which would need to be scanned to determine which of four values it represented. Bronze coins would be worth 1BCBC, Silver worth 10BCBC, Gold worth 100BCBC and Diamond worth 10,000BCBC.
\r\nHowever, the proportion of coins to bottles is also scaled, so users are 90% likely to find a Bronze coin, 9.9% Silver, 0.09% Gold (0.09%) and a slender 0.01% Diamond. Coins will be pegged to the value of one standard beer, at 100BCBC.
\r\nThe company hopes that beer drinkers will use the currency in the standard way, but also, with their Ethereum ERC-20 based dapp, buy merchandise from favoured breweries to show support, or donate Beercoins to charity and to give back to the community.
\r\n\r\n\r\nThe blockchain industry has grown exponentially, disrupting traditional markets and creating new opportunities for innovation.
