The owner of the NBA team, The Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban has tweeted to confirm that next season, sports fans will be able to purchase tickets to the games using Bitcoin. However, this isn’t the first time that a basketball team has accepted cryptocurrencies as payment. In 2014, The Sacramento Kings began acknowledging Bitcoin as a legitimate method of payment for tickets and promotional products.
\r\nMark Cuban, a Billionaire tech investor, is a leading figure within the cryptocurrency industry, who is famous for supporting a cryptocurrency hedge fund as well as an ICO. Furthermore, he is also known for introducing Mercury Protocol, the Ethereum-based cryptocurrency, last August.
\r\nWhilst his actions may appear to support cryptocurrencies, his words have been slightly more confusing. In June 2017, Cuban seemed to disprove of the cryptocurrency and Blockchain boom, describing it as a bubble. Yet four months later, he stated they were \"the future\". In his video guide ‘How to Get Rich’, Cuban also advised people to invest 10% of their life savings into Bitcoin.
\r\nThe cryptocurrency market may currently be experiencing a challenging period but the fact that numerous billionaire investors such as Zuckerberg, Thiel and Cuban have all recognised the potential benefits of Bitcoin, is a sign that the technology may have a long-term future.
The blockchain industry has grown exponentially, disrupting traditional markets and creating new opportunities for innovation.
