A state senator in Nebraska has filed three bills which focus on the security of cryptocurrency transactions and the use of Blockchain technology.

According to public records, on 3rd January 2018, Carol Blood presented the proposed laws to the state legislature. One of the proposals is an amendment to money-laundering statutes to better account for cryptocurrency transactions, with the other two focusing more broadly on the regulation of Blockchain technology.

\r\n

In an important move, one of these bills would allow Blockchain technology to be used for the notarisation of documents. If this bill is passed, it would authorise and legally define smart contracts, as well as authorising the use of distributed ledger technology, in the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act and Electronic Notary Public Act.

\r\n

The other proposed Blockchain bill would stop cities and counties in the state of Nebraska from placing local taxes on distributed ledger technology, or introducing legislation which affects the use of this technology.

\r\n

This is positive news for companies which plan to launch services based on Blockchain technology, such as Populous, Street Smart Outdoor, and KodakOne. It remains to be seen if senators in Nebraska will approve and pass the proposed legislation, as no hearing dates in the senate have been scheduled.
