Just days after the announcement that it is to open a new branch based in Switzerland, Bitmain Technologies, the Chinese cryptocurrency mining giant, is looking for another base outside its home country. A January 12th report from Reuters states that Bitmain is considering an expansion into Canada, and is looking at possible sites in Quebec. The company is already in negotiation with the province\'s power authorities, in an area which is rich with potential energy sources.
\r\nBitmain has been devoting a lot of time to finding alternative mining facilities outside of China, since that country’s ban on ICOs and more regulatory moves anticipated in the near future. While no official edict has yet been issued on bitcoin mining, Reuters reported that local authorities were growing less willing to allow any further expansion. The huge drain on energy resources in China, which accounts for more than 70% of global mining activity, has led to suggestions that some controls will soon be initiated.
\r\nBitmain announced on January 10th that it would be expanding into Europe, and had registered as Bitmain Switzerland in Zug, in the country’s so-called \"Crypto Valley.\" The company said that Switzerland would be playing a key role in its plans for global expansion.
