Recent announcements of fundamental flaws in many CPUs, including Intel, AMD and ARM processors, have been extended to include all Apple and Mac iOS products, as the company confirmed on January 4th. The processor flaws, called Spectre and Meltdown, were announced the previous day by a Google security research team and have caused widespread panic, as they leave systems open to hacking attacks.

One cybersecurity journalist pointed out on Twitter that any computer\'s entire memory could be accessed by someone renting time on a cloud server such as Microsoft, Google or Amazon, which they would then use to steal data from others renting space on the same server.

Many people are worried as to how this will affect their digital currency hardware wallets, but two of the most commonly used wallet providers, Ledger and Trezor, have stated conclusively that these vulnerabilities and Spectre attacks have no effect on hardware cryptocurrency wallets.

Hardware wallets, unlike centralised online exchanges, allow their users to retain full control of their private keys. Even if there is a hack on the wallet platform, users can still access their funds and move them elsewhere. Centralised systems, on the other hand, store these private keys on their users\' behalf and are thus vulnerable. More importantly, any transactions over Wi-Fi and cloud services are also insecure at this time.
