The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University, known as Virginia Tech, will be welcoming programming legend Dan Larimer to its halls in Blacksburg, VA, on March 20th. Creator of the cryptocurrency exchange, BitShares, in 2014, he also co-founded the social blockchain-based platform, Steemit, in 2016. Larimer is also CTO of Block. One, which is to release its EOS.IO blockchain in June 2018.
The company is meanwhile distributing a billion native EOS tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, in order to ensure the capacity for widespread adoption of EOS.IO when it is launched. The EOS cryptocurrency token is listed at #9 in global market cap rankings, with an approximate value of $8.24. The new blockchain is set to rival Ethereum in the scope and scale of its transaction processing capability.
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) at Virginia Tech will be the host for Larimer's talk on blockchain technologies. The talk will include a short introduction to the new tech, referring to scalability and the engineering challenges that blockchain presents. Larimer will underscore the importance of blockchain's potential to drive innovation, and give examples of possible usage for a number of different applications.
The talk had originally been scheduled for March 1st, but has been put back in order to accommodate a greater number of students and interested participants.
