A Bitcoin-only charity fund known as the Pineapple Fund gave a welcome $1m Christmas gift to the Internet Archive at the weekend. The charity, which was established only recently, at the beginning of December 2017, declared its intention to donate an equivalent of $86m in Bitcoin to a selection of non-profit organizations.
\r\nStating that \"money doesn\'t matter\" once you have enough of it, Pineapple has already given 657 BTC (worth around $8.5m) to 13 humanitarian organizations. Its aims, as explicitly delineated on their website, include \"supporting medical research, gender equality and taking innovative approaches to do good in this world.\"
\r\nThe Pineapple Fund was launched anonymously, by an altruistic benefactor known only as a username on Reddit, \'/u/PineappleFund.\' While many have seen the explosion of interest in Bitcoinas a way to make an overnight fortune for those in on the ground floor, it is encouraging to see that some of those canny investors also have philanthropic intentions.
\r\nThe Internet Archive organization is host to a service that keeps a backup record of internet artefacts, storing versions of evolving web pages as a digital reference library. It announced in November 2017 that it would accept Bitcoin Cash and ZCash donations in order to support its declared mission, to preserve the internet for future generations.
Zloadr is launching a new token exchange powered by its audience.
