The Japanese bitcoin and digital currency exchange BitFlyer has launched into new territories after acquiring a payment license that allows it to operate within the European Union. It is a move that expands the service fromits Japanese base, as the use of cryptocurrencies becomes more popular across the globe.

\r\n

In terms of volume, BitFlyer is currently the 14th largest bitcoin exchange on the planet, with around $294 million traded per day at this moment in time. Bitcoin is the main choice of currency exchanged on the platform by users, though other cryptocurrencies are used through the service.

\r\n

Despite this, BitFlyer’s success has been achieved by a strict offering of only the mainstream cryptocurrencies on the market, with offerings of bitcoin, bitcoin cash, monacoin, ethereum and ethereum classic. For the expansion into Europe the plan is to stick with just bitcoin for the time being (trading with Euro), but as the service expands in the coming months the plan is to stretch into its staple currency seen in Japan.

\r\n

The payment license for BitFlyer came from Luxembourg, where it will be based. The move is an interesting one as Japan is currently one of the leading trading hubs cryptocurrencies. It will be interesting to see whether BitFlyer becomes a success in Europe.
