The Municipality of Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, has teamed up with the IOTA foundation for their Smart City project. The announcement, on January 30th, was confirmed by IOTA with a photograph showing the signatories with the signed memorandum of cooperation.
\r\nTaipei\'s city government will use IOTA\'s distributed ledger technology for the \"diverse needs\" which go towards making Taipei into a Smart City. Information and communication tech (Facial Recognition Software, security cameras, GPS, smartphones, etc.) will be coordinated and designed to increase the city\'s operational efficiency. At the same time, this information is to be shared with the public, with the joint aim of improving citizen\'s wellbeing as well as the quality of municipal services.
\r\nA long stand-off between the Taiwanese government and industry has prevented much adoption of the internet revolution technologies, but it seems they are finally turning this around. The new accord sees them embracing the Internet of Things systems, including an electronic toll collection (eTag) system, installing Wi-Fi on the Taoyuan Metro and a card payment platform.
\r\nThe IOTA Foundation operates a new system of P2P transactions which is not blockchain-based, but instead comprises a Tangle, something like a tree whose branches grow in one direction only, and are not centralised on a block.
Zloadr is launching a new token exchange powered by its audience.
