On Feb. 12, 2018, the President of the European Central Bank will be providing answers to questions from Europeans aged between 16 and 35, via a series of cryptocurrency and Blockchain videos – provided they send in their questions by Tuesday, January 23rd.
\r\nThe person responsible for selecting questions will be Mario Draghi, and whether Bitcoin really can continue to make ground against traditional currencies will be debated. The questions will be centered on the possibility of a new global economic crash; cryptocurrencies and Blockchain; Europe’s economic recovery, and youth unemployment.
\r\nThe ECB has held youth dialogue sessions on two other occasions. The format consists of a series of talks made by various bank officials and policymakers, as well as students and younger people from different countries around the world. After the session, the ECB will be running an opinion poll on Twitter, to ask if people think bitcoin could be a viable alternative to traditional currencies in the future.
\r\nWhat the role for central banks will remain to be seen, but the ECB has done something positive by asking the next generation how they perceive digital currency. There is a view which suggests it can be a stabilising influence on economies, but there are also those who have pointed out the volatility of Bitcoin.
