The Russian language news magazine, ForkLog, reported two raids carried out on its business and personal premises last week by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), targeting the offices and private apartment of Anatoly Kaplan, ForkLog\'s founder and CEO.
\r\nOn Friday morning the SSU apparently searched Kaplan\'s flat in Odessa (with a warrant). They were looking for US and Ukraine personnel using ForkLog as an intermediary to exchange Bitcoin for Ukrainian currency, Hryvnia. The SSU officers seized hardware with stored cryptocurrency funds and other items. From the office premises, SSU confiscations included company cash and all of its hardware.
\r\nHowever, according to ForkLog, the search warrant named personnel entirely unrelated to the news resource or to Kaplan himself – or to ForkLog\'s business activities as a media and information resource. Kaplan insists that the magazine does not offer any exchange services or facilitate any such process, and draws attention to the authorities\' attempt during the raid to transfer ForkLog\'s cryptocurrencies to an SSU-controlled address.
\r\nCryptocurrency is a strong factor in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian political conflict, with some calling for full implementation as the solution to their fiscal difficulties. However, Kaplan considers that the attempted government theft of his Bitcoin has worrying implications for the whole blockchain community.
