The United Nations has revealed it is promoting the Climate Chain Coalition. The announcement comes after the UN said they wanted to increase their efforts in promoting the use of Blockchain technology to advance work on climate change.
\r\nThe new group will focus on researching and analysing the effect that distributed ledger technology (DLT) can have on initiatives which relate to climate change. For example, they are said to be exploring how Blockchain technology could be used in the process of clean energy trading, monitoring carbon emissions and fund allocation.
\r\nAccording to the statement, the joint partnership was as a result of a meeting which took place in December 2017 and saw 25 DLT-focused companies agree to create the idea, motivated by the Paris Climate Agreement. Leader of the UN\'s Climate Change project, Massamba Thioye, said that the group is now looking for active participation from various companies with expertise in technology.
\r\nWhilst the joint venture has only just begun, the union is an example of another attempt to add to the non-profit\'s existing efforts towards investigating Blockchain technology and its benefits within business. The UN has formerly held a trial process that delivered humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees, utilising ethereum and Blockchain.
