A city in Vermont is experimenting with a land registration method that uses Blockchain technology. The city of South Burlington is said to be using Blockchain in the technique to record ownership. On 22nd January, it was revealed that the City Clerk's Office and Propy, a blockchain startup, were joining forces to create a system which filed and maintained land record management data.

The aim of the new system is to create a more effective and efficient ledger. They also want to assess the benefits of using Blockchain technology, and whether or not storing land management data in this way will cut costs, as compared to conventional methods.

South Burlington is just another example of government officials exploring the potential benefits of Blockchain in business, and more specifically, land registration. Sweden and the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh have also revealed that they are currently investigating developments with Blockchain startups.

However, this is not the first time that the state of Vermont has explored Blockchain, as it previously formed a group to evaluate the effects of the tech on government procedures. What’s more, the state has also proposed a bill attempting to regulate businesses trading or operating in digital currency.
