Bitcoin-bubble sceptics should rejoice in the news from Reuters on December 21st that a new trend is emerging. Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology have given many companies the idea of incorporating the words into their company name or business practice. Just as everyone jumped on the dotcom bandwagon in the 90s, "blockchain" and "crypto" are the new magic words that can multiply stock values overnight. 

The Long Island Iced Tea Corp was the latest to join in on December 21st, when it formally changed its name to "Long Blockchain Corp." Share prices immediately rose to nearly triple their previous value, equivalent to the approximate rise in value of bitcoin since October 11th.

Other companies with skyrocketing share prices who have changed their names, or gone into blockchain tech, include business as diverse as biotech, retail clothing and e-cigarettes.

An online payment processing firm, Net Element Inc, launched a blockchain based operation on December 20th – and saw its market cap value almost quadruple overnight.

Juice makers, SkyPeople Fruit Juice Inc, changed their name to Future FinTech Group Inc, in order to demonstrate a commitment to agricultural commodities trading and e-commerce. Their market cap value more than doubled.

Biotech company, Bioptix Inc, changed its name to Riot Blockchain Inc, and became a blockchain investor focusing on ethereum and bitcoin. Its share value has risen from $68.6m to $300.6m.
