One project in development by Bitcoin Core expert, Jonas Schnelli, who is working to reduce full node set-up time, is to produce devices with a Bitcoin full node already built in. Each device would have the full node pre-downloaded and already set up prior to purchase, so it could just be plugged in and ready to use.
\r\nUsers who want to run full nodes generally have to buy expensive, dedicated hardware, and then download the software onto it. Schnelli, who is also the co-founder of Digital Bitbox (a hardware wallet), is calling his new project a \"full node in a box\" which would have the software pre-installed. He is hoping to put such devices on the market in the not-too-distant future and says they will save a lot of time, though he is currently uncertain what they would cost.
\r\nHe compares the idea to a router or Apple TV (though less fun) and observes that some similar devices exist, for full nodes only. Schnelli thinks that such devices are not quite ready to fulfill his idea, because of the difficulty of finding affordable hardware that can sync quickly enough with Bitcoin Care. His own \"full node in a box\" device is envisioned as a computerised auditor, which could be run in the home to monitor bitcoin finances, and could be marketed affordably.
